Wake Up!

Things around the blog have been quiet for the last few weeks months… I can give you a hundred and one excuses as to why but the biggest one… I’ve felt like I’ve been in a fog, almost like I’ve been asleep, for quite a while now.

Between traveling 20+ days out of every month, to planning a wedding from thousands of miles away, to having a cancer recurrence scare… some days it was all just too much. Not to mention I spend 10-12hrs a day working on a computer so some days the last thing I want to do is stare at a computer screen for “fun.”

Being on the go for so long has zapped me of my energy. And my creativity. But slowly I can feel it coming back…

I’ve started working from home which is a HUGE change but I can already tell it’s going to be great!  Meaning no more getting up before dawn to catch a hotel breakfast and shuttle to work 10+ hrs and wait for a shuttle back for a hotel dinner and an empty room. No more weekly trips in and out of airports with baggage fees, layovers, and delays…

I am starting to feel like myself… I’m eating better, sleeping better, and starting to enjoy life again. Shoot, I’m having a life again. I wouldn’t change the last 8-10 months a bit though.  I’ve learned a lot and met some great people. I got engaged for goodness sakes!  What’s not to love about that?

I’m hoping that as things get back to a more “normal” state around here I have all kinds of creative moments to share with y’all.  I guess you should just stick around and see!

Well It’s Official…

I have resigned from my management position here effective July 22nd.

There are many reasons behind this decision some of which I am not prepared to discuss just yet.  Some of which I might never discuss on le bloggy blog.

I am not certain where I am going or what I am going to do just yet.  That is such an odd feeling.  I’ve always known where I was going before I went.

Don’t get me wrong, I have ideas floating around… this girl has no shortage of those puppies… but so many of them are in the long range category. I just have to start doing the little things to get the momentum going.  And above all I need to follow my heart and live my dreams.  Life is too short not to.

How We Gonna Pay Last Year’s Rent?

Ok I know I’m in nowhere near the predicament that the characters in RENT are facing, {eviction} but this whole renting debacle has this song running through my head.

So in an attempt to clear up some of yesterday’s drama, I did a little digging today.

Today it all started with a phone message response from the management company stating that my apartment had been re-rented on April 10th. 

{Insert confusion here}

The persons in office at my old complex had stated it was re-rented right away as in January or February.  Big difference in the refund coming my way between those two timeframes. So my next step was to call the apartment complex directly and get the exact date that my exact unit had been re-rented. 

The story?  Well someone had put a deposit down on my apartment fairly quickly after my move out… and then at last minute pulled out of the deal. {jerk} So my apartment had been “on hold” for this person who then decided they didn’t want it and the complex then had to try to find another renter. {double jerk}  They finally did find another renter who moved in on April 10th not in January or February. {dangit}

I’m still a little peeved at the management company for not informing me of this little fact because I’ve been paying $$ when I should be getting $$.  And I will still be writing a strongly worded letter if the situation is not resolved very quickly.  But for now, I am just very happy that my obligations have been fulfilled and its one less monthly debt to concern me.  And let’s face it, there are many other things I would rather spend that $710 on!

About 2 weeks ago I was in Salt Lake City, Utah for a work conference but managed to sneak away for a few photos while I was there!  Here are a few of my favorite shots…

Resignation

So what do you do when you have to write a resignation letter?   You agonize over what you should say… what you shouldn’t say… making sure all the pertinent information is in there… leaving out things that just aren’t important.  You get advice from your HR friend. Finally, you decide to keep it short and sweet and to the point.  Then you quickly print it out and hand it to your boss. 
 
Unless…
 
Unless the only paper in your house is purple, yellow, PINK, is covered in Santa Claus faces, flowers, or angels.  Yes my dears, I found myself with not a stitch of white copy paper in sight the night I wanted to print my letter!  Of course I wasn’t about to run out in the cold weather to get a new ream of paper, that would be too easy.  No I frantically searched through every drawer in my house to find something suitable and even debated long and hard about using pink or purple. [Hey, it worked for Elle Woods didn’t it??]  
 
Then, it dawned on me… I am a scrapbooker!!  I have mountains of lovely papers stuffed in my rolling scrap station!  There was bound to be an 8.5x11” sheet of plain white in there right?
 
Wrong!

Since discovering the joys of 12x12” scrapbooks, I have completely purged my 8.5x11” paper selections!  So then it hits me.  I have this amazing paper cropping tool that I use to cut papers to whatever lovely size I desire! 
 
So I pulled out a few white papers and discover I have a serious shiny white paper problem.  If I print on that, it will smear.  Totally not acceptable.  I then found one glorious piece of almost cardstock thickness pure white paper.  Yessss!
 
I happily cropped my sheet down to the very specific letter size and sent it through the laserjet.  Success!
