The Final Summit by Andy Andrews {A Book Review}

I love to read when I’m traveling and on a recent trip, I brought my advance copy of The Final Summit by Andy Andrews with me to pass the time.  It did not disappoint!  I started reading it on one flight and finished it on the second!

The Final Summit follows the character David Ponder as he, with a little help from famous men and women throughout history, struggles to solve the answer to one question.  He has five chances to find the little two word answer and if he fails, the fate of mankind is on the line.  A little bit of history, a little bit of the divine, and a lot of sage advice combine for a compelling story. 

If you are like me and haven’t read the introduction of David Ponder in the New York Times Bestseller, The Traveler’s Gift, don’t fear!  The author gives just enough of an introduction of that tale to let you know what you are missing… or what you may have forgotten if you did read it.  After reading The Final Summit, I am definitely going back to read The Traveler’s Gift!

I definitely would recommend this book.  You literally do not want to put it down because you just have to find out the answer to the riddle!

Curiosities of the Civil War by Webb Garrison {a book review}

Do you like history?  Do you want to know more about the War Between the States and how America came to be? Are you a fan of random facts?

Then the book Curiosities of the Civil War: Strange Stories, Infamous Characters, & Bizarre Events by author Webb Garrison is for you!  Even if you think you are a Civil War buff, I can almost guarantee that there will be new tidbits of information that you will glean from reading this book.

The Civil War is known for being the bloodiest in American History but this book looks beyond the atrocities to recount bizarre tidbits as well as stories of some of the little known, everyday heroes.

I am not really a history buff but I do tend to like random tidbits of information.  This book held my interest throughout and went beyond the traditional history to give you more of the story.  I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn more than just the traditional perspectives.

Outlive Your Life by Max Lucado {book review}

You go to work, take care of things around your house, play with the kids… You consider your life to be simple, ordinary even.  You feel like you want to make a difference, but you are just one ordinary person.   Do you really have the power to impact people in a big way? 

Most of us have felt small and inconsequential at some point in our lives.  If only we were famous or rich, then we would really have the chance to influence and impact people’s lives, right? 

But what if you could make a difference?  You.  Just as you are.  Without an endless bank account or fans on every corner.  This is exactly what Max Lucado talks about in his book “Outlive Your Life.”

From the moment I picked up this book, I was completely sucked in. The easy reading style of Lucado combined with the messages of hope and motivation made this a really enjoyable read.   I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to make a lasting impact on the world around them.
